Ryan has had his first full week of outpatient therapy at TIRR in the Woodlands. They have assigned him for 2 days of Physical therapy and speech, and 3 days of occupational therapy ( due to the muscle tone of his right side of the body).
There are still many struggles at home in Ryan's strenuous, exhausting, amazing, beautiful journey. We are continuing to fight his agressiong and agitation that often comes from frustration and communication difficulties. We continue to ask you to pray for understanding, calmness, and peace for Ryan during his recovery process.
Ryan is very inquisitive asking many types of questions throughout the day such as: what is today, what time is it, do I know a person named (blank), how old am I, and many many other questions.
We went out to dinner for the first time together since Ryan has been home. We were a little bit nervous, but he did great!!! Ryan even accomplished a new skill while at dinner; he drank through a straw!!!! Yes, this seems like a simple task, but we do not consider how many muscles and differnt movements of our mouth that to takes to complete drinking through a straw. The waiter brought Ryan a tall lemonade with a straw and he was determined to use it! He did awesome! They practice this skill during speech therapy so yesterday his therapist was very excited!!
We watched Heaven is For Real last night, I had already read the book previously but still balled like a baby. The entire time I thought of Ryan and his journey. I am confident that Ryan spoke with The Lord during his 3 months in a coma, he has said things that indicate this. He says that he has so much to tell us, but just can't remember it right now. Ryan's strength is a gift from God. We are continuing healing and in a very difficult season and it's very easy to get caught up in the hardships and the negatives that come with this season. Personally, I have to remind myself how far he has come and the blessings that have already been shown to us. I know the blessings are not over, and we must not grow weary. Thank you for your prayers, love, and support.
Isaiah 40:28-31 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
