Ryan and Mom have been in the hospital for 6 whole months straight, that seems unbelievable to me. Some days it seems like it was just yesterday when I heard the worst news of my life about my baby brother, and other days it feels like these 6 months have been years. The Lord does mysterious things with our stance on time, but I do know one thing for sure, He has blessed my entire family with patience. Patience to know that His work is "always perfect timing", and patience to withstand these long 6 months of Ryan's recovery.
Thank you to everyone who continues to read Ryan's updates, the continuous prayers, and the suggestions and help that is given through this website. I was misinformed...or actually just did not ask the therapist about a large keyboard. I simply made it my own mission to find out for Ryan, I should have went to the specialist first. Yesterday, they informed us that they have multiple keyboard devices for all types of patients and difficulties - DUH!! Why didn't I think that TIRR would have the best equipment?!?! ...the therapist do not want to give Ryan the "easy" way out yet. Using the cardboard keyboard and pointing is difficult, which they want it to remain that way for now because this required Ryan to use his voice to communicate first (which makes sense) :) . TIRR has all types of keyboard with large buttons, touch screen, and even one that is used through eye retina where Ryan would simply just have to look at the correct letter and it would spell it out for him ... SO HIGH-TECH!! .. but for now, we want Ryan to use his voice as much as possible so we will continue to use the make-shift cardboard keyboard that we have! Thank you again for everyone's suggestions and help!
Ryan received a higher dosage of medicine the other day to control his anger, and it is clear that it makes him drowsy. He has been soooo sleepy that past 2 days, but the doctors said his body will adjust. Even with Ryan's drowsiness, he continues to work extremely hard in every one of his therapy sessions. The new medication is supposed to help his anger as well as minimize his tremors in his left arm and shoulder. Please pray that Ryan will receive healing in these two areas; with the tremors is makes everyday activities difficult for Ryan.
As the days go by, we will not lose faith. We will wait on the Lord. We will not grow weary. We will "pray without ceasing" 1Thessalonians 5:17.
