Happy Friday! It has been a long week, and an even longer 12 days for our family. Although, we are praying for patience. We know that God's timing is always perfect timing. Psalms 27:14 reminds us to wait for the Lord's glorious gifts: Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! Also, we have to remind ourselves that these have been 12, grueling days, but in God's eyes it is much different: But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2 Peter 3:8
Late last night we were told that Ryan's lung infection is actually a staph infection. Do not be alarmed, this was caught very early and treated immediately with antibiotics. We had a few hiccups throughout the night and day. Ryan became very nauseous and sick; the nurses could not stop him from throwing up. Once there was nothing left in his poor stomach, Ryan began to relax and rest a little easier. We are still not sure what is causing his nausea.
7 am: Ryan began bleeding from his trachea. The nurses were very concerned and called in the neurosurgeons, who then called the trauma surgeons who actually administered the trachea surgery. As of now, they are using "packing" to control the bleeding. The doctors said that Ryan is not bleeding enough to pin-point the actual reason and area from which it is coming from. We all assume it is because of the repeated sickness and stress on his throat through the night and early morning.
These small setbacks will not allow us to become discouraged. Ryan is a fighter. The devil preys on the sick, but he is a defeated foe. He has no power over us. We look to the Lord during the good and the troubling. We will always praise his name, and give him thanks. We pray for UNWAVERING faith. We are certain that God has his healing hands on Ryan. He is doing things that no one person could do in their flesh. God is working through Ryan!
Psalm 23:1-6
A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
God never ceases to amaze me! Around 6:30pm Ryan began continuously bleeding from his trachea. A team of 10 neurosurgeons, trauma surgeons, and other doctors came to Ryan's bedside. They could not stop the bleeding; he then began bleeding from his nose and mouth. Ryan's blood pressure shot up. After about 45 minutes, they called for an emergency surgery to find the starting point of the bleeding. All we could do was join hands and pray. Our prayers went to the team of surgeons; that every hand that lay on Ryan would be ones of Christ. That their hands would be steadfast, able, careful, and precise. That The Lord work through the surgeons to help Ryan's emergency and allow them to be able to find the cause for the bleeding. After 45 minutes of waiting, the surgeons paid us a visit. We were filled with immediate fear when they first arrived so quickly. They had good news! Why do we fear when we know The Lord has Ryan in his hands? ... When we know Our God is the ultimate physician?
Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you, I will hold you up with my righteous right hand.
When the surgeons arrived, they told us that Ryan's bleeding had stopped. A main artery had been scraped, or busted, in his throat which was the source of the bleeding. They replaced his trachea and he is now recovering! God is our provider and healer. He is truly amazing and continuing to hear and answer our prayers! Please do not stop praying; Ryan is still fighting for his life. Let's continue to storm the gates of heaven with our constant prayers for complete restoration! Praise God for all the amazing things he is doing for Ryan and through Ryan. He has a plan, do not doubt Him.
Ryan is on the move again to a new room. He will be back in ICU for recovery. This is just like Ryan, he can never sit still in one place!
Lord, I pray that you take any pain away from Ryan that he may be encountering. That you continue to have your hands on his recovery. I pray that Ryan has a calm, peaceful, and restful night. You are so good to us Lord! Amen.
9:30pm: Scratch that, change of plans again. Ryan will continue to be in the neuroscience intermediate care facility, but they are changing his rooms. We have had problems with our air conditioner in our room, and they say it is not good for his lungs... So he's on the move again!
